March 5th 2020

The peak season for domestic tourists is during the Dashain and Tihar holidays. A total of 3,492 visitors arrived in Kartik, the highest in the current fiscal, while the lowest, 126, visited in Shrawan.

The total amount of revenue, comprising admission fees collected from visitors, boat rides, and others, stood at NPR 3,063,791 by the end of Baisakh. Money received from tourists was NPR 25,30,000 and fines among others, NPR 5,33,781.

In comparison to the previous fiscal year, the number of domestic visitors was quite less, with 11,191 visitors. The foreign visitors consisted of 26 visitors from SAARC countries and 183 visitors from other countries. The rates for the entry fee were different for different types of visitors: for domestic visitors, it was NPR 100; for SAARC nationals, it was NPR 1,500; and for others, it was NPR 3,000 per person. For a boat ride, it was NPR 500 per person, and the revenue generated underwent a sharing formula among various stakeholders.

The mode of transportation for most visitors was by air, at 75%, since the road infrastructure is relatively undeveloped. Notwithstanding these difficulties, lacustrine tourism in Rara Lake has eloquently grown and attracts visitors throughout the year to its different seasonal attractions.
