Efforts were centered on lessening the impacts of climate alter in hilly zones

Speakers highlighted the urgency of addressing the diverse challenges posed by climate change to the livelihoods of hill areas.

Chairperson Sonam Geljen Sherpa underscored the importance of coordinated efforts by all levels of government to tackle climate change issues in mountainous regions, referencing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's advocacy for the plight of mountain communities globally. He proposed a unified effort through a "Save Mountain Campaign."

Sherpa also emphasized the need for policy interventions. Committee members Mohammad Khalid and Indira Devi Poudel stressed the necessity of inter-governmental coordination across different levels and with other mountainous countries worldwide to effectively address climate change challenges.

Tashi Lhamu Sherpa, Vice-Chairperson of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality, warned about the risks associated with climate change, such as melting snow and the threat of glacial lake outbursts, urging proactive measures. She called for the establishment of rescue teams and the implementation of early warning systems by the government in mountainous areas to mitigate disaster risks.
